Financial data and wealthtech firm Syntax Data and private market data specialist PM Insights announced a strategic partnership on Tuesday that they said integrates Syntax’s proprietary Functional Information System (FIS) for company classification with PM Insights’ dataset covering mid- to late-stage venture-backed private companies.
As a result, RIAs and institutional asset managers can access benchmarking that the firms said include sector-specific performance metrics, comparisons of revenue multiples and cross-market competitive intelligence.
The integrated solution addresses a significant “gap in the market by providing structured, transparent data for private company analysis, a segment that has historically lacked the standardization and depth available in public markets,” according to the firms.
The integrated solution includes a unified classification framework across over 12,500 public and thousands of private companies, valuation intelligence, benchmarking and market share intelligence that the firms said “reveal competitive positioning within industries and emerging themes.”
This is the first time the two firms have collaborated, Patrick Shaddow, CEO of Syntax, told WSR by email, noting the integration took about four months to complete.
Shaddow added, “The integrated platform will be available to clients in early 2026, though rollouts to select clients are already underway.”
“Investors need consistent classification and benchmarking across public and private markets,” Shaddow said in a news release. “This partnership delivers that capability, giving institutional investors the analytical tools they've been missing for private company analysis.”
According to the firms, the platform’s early users are identifying mispriced private investments, increasing the efficiency of public-private portfolios and validating company valuations against competitive data.

According to the news release, this partnership is the first integrated classification system to use institutional-grade indexing methodology for both public and private companies.
“Public and private markets are converging, but the data infrastructure hasn’t kept pace,” according to Nicholas Fusco, CEO of PM Insights.
“We’re not just aggregating data; we’re revealing the economic relationships and business model affinities that actually drive value creation – whether a company is public or private,” he said in the news release.
