Cedar Rapids, Iowa-based Berthel Fisher Companies hired Nate Spencer as Vice President of Business Development and recruited the Reading, Pennsylvania-based firm MP Butterworth & Associates, which is run by a father-son duo who oversees approximately $85 million in assets under management (AUM).

Spencer previously worked in the M&A unit at Allworth Financial, the workplace planning sales team at Fidelity Investments and began his financial services career at Charles Schwab. He will report to Paige Swartzendruber, Senior Vice President, Business Development at Berthel Fisher. Spencer’s duties will include recruiting independent financial professionals, developing acquisition strategies, cultivating organic growth and maximizing retention among existing professionals.

Mike Butterworth founded MP Butterworth & Associates in 1984, and his son Chris joined him in 2012. They provide comprehensive wealth management and specialize in long-term planning for families supporting loved ones with special needs.

In recent months, Berthel Fisher has recruited more than a dozen advisors and brought in over $165 million in AUM. This includes Dylan Brooks joining the 1st and Main Investment Advisors branch in Edwards, Colorado, and Carl Wallin joining the Freedom Financial Group branch in Minot, North Dakota.

Berthel Fisher Companies includes Berthel Fisher & Company Financial Services, a broker-dealer supporting independent advisors; Securities Management & Research, an insurance-based broker-dealer; BFC Planning, an RIA with access to multiple custodians and portfolio managers; and Berthel Fisher & Company Insurance, an agency that offers products from insurance carriers.

According to their last ADV, Berthel Fisher & Company Financial Services and BFC Planning oversaw approximately $1.9 billion in combined AUM.
