FP Transitions on Wednesday announced it launched a new proprietary benchmarking tool for financial advisors and appointed industry veteran Tom Kimberly as Chief Operating Officer, a new role at the company.
The company’s new Estimated Value Index was designed to give advisory firm owners a “clearer, more immediate view into the financial strength and relative value of their businesses,” it said.
The Index is available now through the firm’s FPInsights Portal, a platform providing data-driven insights and tools for growth and strategic decision-making.
The new Value Index Score was “developed in response to a longstanding need we see among financial advisors: they want an easier, faster way to understand where their business value sits relative to the market as a whole as they contemplate strategic objectives to improve the value of their businesses,” Brad Bueermann, CEO of FP Transitions, told Wealth Solutions Report.

The firm “soft-launched” the new Value Index Score in July “rather than conducting a traditional closed beta,” Bueermann said.
“Before the soft launch, we back tested the Value Index Score against our database of firm valuations and M&A transactions completed over the last two years to gauge its effectiveness in providing advisors with insights into their value relative to the market as a whole.”
He added, “The initial release allows advisors with an FP Insights login to complete a short firm snapshot and immediately receive a Value Index Score and an estimated revenue-multiple range. This first release is intentionally focused, and we are using advisor interaction and feedback to inform subsequent development.”
The index assigns a score from 1 to 100 to advisory firms based on financial information. A higher score indicates better financial performance compared with firms in FP Transitions’ database, the firm said. The index is designed to show firms how their businesses compare with peers and a revenue multiple range that may be supported by their profile. It is available at no cost to advisors with an FPInsights account, the company pointed out.

Instead of providing data just for comparison purposes, FP Transitions said, it helps advisors understand what the information means for decisions about growth, profitability, organizational structure, succession and long-term enterprise value.
“The current Value Index Score is not an AI-generated valuation,” Bueermann went on to say. “It uses information supplied by the advisor together with FP Transitions’ valuation methodology and data to generate an estimated indication of value.”
But he added, “FP Transitions is developing AI-powered capabilities within the broader FP Insights platform that are intended to help interpret benchmarking and valuation data and provide more personalized business insights.”
“For too long, many advisors have thought about the value of their business primarily when they were approaching a sale or succession event,” Bueermann said in a news release. “We believe enterprise value should be something owners understand, measure and intentionally build throughout the life of the business.”
He added, “The Estimated Value Index gives them a simple starting point for doing that and represents an important next step in how we use our data and experience to help advisors make better business decisions.”
Tom Kimberly’s Appointment
Kimberly joined FP Transitions as COO in July, Bueermann said, adding the position was “created as part of the company’s continued growth and its expansion of expertise across the executive and leadership team.”
Kimberly has experience in financial technology, product innovation and advisor solutions. His career has included consulting, financial services, fintech entrepreneurship and product innovation, FP Transitions noted.
He served as Executive Vice President, Chief Product Officer and Chief Technology Officer at Edelman Financial Engines from July 2021 to October 2025, according to his LinkedIn profile. Before that, he was that firm’s Senior Vice President, Head of Product.
Kimberly has also worked at McKinsey & Company, Betterment, Fidelity Labs and Barclays, and he helped build fintech firm Upside.
At FP Transitions, Kimberly will focus on integrating the firm’s business intelligence, consulting expertise, product development and go-to-market capabilities.
“FP Transitions has something exceptionally difficult to replicate: decades of direct experience working with advisory businesses through virtually every stage of their lifecycle,” Kimberly said in the news release.

Kimberly added, “The Estimated Value Index is a great example of how we can turn complex information into something an owner can immediately understand and act upon.”
